Over the years I have had a million and one different skin care routines. It started in middle school. I had really just started to use a face wash at all and I started having a problem with excess oil. I was only using a simple face wash but my skin would be so greasy by the time I got home from school, it was shiny and almost looked as if I was sweaty.(yuck!) My mom took me to the doctor and they prescribed me a cream that I was to put on every night and every morning. The cream was terrible! It smelled extremely strong and chemically. It worked for a few days but then my skin was getting so dry that it began to get flaky! I went from one extreme to another. We went back and they prescribed me a different cream, but it still didn’t seem to work very well. My skin was so unbalanced and confused from all the different extremes it had gone through. Finally, I started to look things up online that would work for oily skin. I did everything from egg white masks to baking soda. Those helped for awhile but not all were very good for your skin. Finally, we went to a dermatologist and she simply told me all I needed was a simple face wash, a moisturizer, and an exfoliate. I didn’t leave with any creams or prescriptions. Just a coupon for CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser, 12 Ounce,CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion, 12 oz.,Cerave Sa Renewing Skin Lotion, 8 Ounce.
The secret wasn’t necessarily the brand, but it was the way I used each item. Every one is used to washing their face, possibly putting lotion on afterwards, and exfoliating once a week. If you have any type of small bumps on your forehead or anywhere on your face it’s caused from dry skin. The only way to get rid of that dry skin is by washing your face first, then using a lotion after it’s nicely dried, then using a cream exfoliate. I did this for about a week and my skin looked and felt amazing! It worked extremely fast and all of my skin problems were gone! My skin wasn’t greasy any more, it wasn’t dry any more, and my little bumps on my forehead disappeared.
Now that I have balanced out my skin, I have switched my products. CeraVe works perfectly if you need something durable and doctor recommended, and fast results (if your skin is really messed up). If your skin is fine but needs a little boost then I would recommend using Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser For Sensitive Skin, 6 Fl. Oz, and Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer With Sunscreen Broad Spectrum Spf 15, 4 Oz. If your skin doesn’t have any bumps then you are fine to use a regular exfoliate once or twice a week. I use St. Ives Face Scrub Apricot 6 oz (Pack of 3). This also helps with any excess oils.
To make things easier I will list out exactly what I do, what products I use, and the steps to take to get your skin feeling perfect!
If Your Skin Needs Major Help!
Face Wash: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser, 12 Ounce
Wash your face with one pump of the soap. Use lukewarm water. Pat your skin dry with a clean wash cloth.
Once your face is completely dry, pump about a dime size of lotion into your hand and massage gently all over your face.
Exfoliate: Cerave Sa Renewing Skin Lotion, 8 Ounce
After the moisterizer has had time to settle onto your skin, repeat the same directions for the lotion as the exfoliate.
*Extra Tip: Only use the exfoliate at night time before bed. In the mornings you only need to wash your face and moisturize. It’s also great to have a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. Even when you aren’t going to spend the day in the sun it is great to have protection on your skin!
If Your Skin Needs A Better Glow:
Wet your face with lukewarm water, then use one pump of the foaming cleanser. Once it has covered all of your face, gently rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry with a clean wash cloth.
Use about a pea size amount and massage gently onto your skin.
Exfoliate: St. Ives Face Scrub Apricot 6 oz (Pack of 3)
Only use this once every couple of days (about twice a week at night before bed). Wet your face and use a small, pea size amount, to very gently massage over your skin. Rinse completely, moisturize as normal.
*How It Works: If you have a problem with excess oils, you actually aren’t moisturizing enough! Your skin will produce more oil than it needs to try to fix the problem itself. Once you start moisturizing your face daily and in a routine, your skin will stop producing extra oil.
*One Last Note: The products I have listed are exactly what I used/use today. Another amazing tip I have for everyone is to put as little products on your face as possible. If your skin looks good, then don’t feel the need to pack on the make up. A natural look is beautiful, makes you stand out, and your skin will look even better without a bunch of make up. I used to put make up on even when my skin didn’t have any blemishes and it only makes your face look flat. Try going completely natural a few days and you will feel even more beautiful!
